Free access to knowledge is key to building an integrated and prosperous community.
The Biblioteca de San Miguel de Allende AC offers a wide range of educational and cultural activities to foster a harmonious vibrant community. It provides a warm and welcoming space where all members of our community meet to access a lending library, obtain skills in training workshops, participate in educational classes or attend a variety of cultural offerings.
Our bilingual library is the second largest in Mexico. The Biblioteca has more than 16,000 active members. Access to our facilities is free and unrestricted: anyone can consult books or use our lovely spaces to read, work, or gather with friends. If the historical core of the Biblioteca’s programs is the library itself, we are much more than books! We also offer free classes and workshops to our members.
Our reading rooms: We serve a broad audience. The Spanish room covers all fields of knowledge. It is particularly used by university students researching law, medicine and psychology. The English room offers a great selection of contemporary literature, biographies and non-fiction. The Latin American Studies collection is an amazing resource for foreigners to better understand the rich Mexican culture.
Computer and science programs: We offer free access to our computer lab with internet connectivity for San Miguel students. A series of workshops is programmed all year-round; anyone can sign-up to expand their computer skills. The science club is held once a week and welcomes kids from the “campo” to discover the joys of mechanics, physics, or chemistry by experiencing and playing.
Art programs: We believe education through arts is as essential as academics. We also know that schools in San Miguel de Allende don’t adequately cover the practice and learning of the arts. This is why we provide free classes, including all art supplies for children and teenagers.
Music programs: One of our most successful programs is the Children’s chorus. More than 20 children enjoy singing together twice a week at the Biblioteca and often present their talent in public for concerts. The Biblioteca also gives free guitar and piano classes to children and teenagers.
