EEESMA School for the Deaf offers an education in Mexican Sign Language to children who are Deaf; programs that would otherwise be unavailable to them.
The school’s mission is to ensure that all San Miguel de Allende children who are Deaf become literate, independent, and productive citizens who set and achieve life goals.
EEESMA School for the Deaf challenges students with a standards-based curriculum at the pre-school, primary, middle and high school levels using a bi-lingual model of Mexican Sign Language and written Spanish. Vocational training and computer skills training is also offered to promote students’ choices and self-determination upon graduation and transition into the work world.
The school was founded in 2012 and now has 40 students on campus ranging in age from six years to adult. With no government support available, the school relies entirely on fundraising, grants, and donations.
The children look to you for your support. Please help EEESMA School for the Deaf continue its valuable work by contributing to the Student Scholarship Program. The sponsorship of one student at $1500 per year or $120 per month will make the world of difference. However, a gift, regardless of size, is always gratefully appreciated.
The impact of your support is enormous. Seven students are currently attending high school joining seven others who previously graduated. One such student is a bright young woman who received her Undergraduate Degree in Education in 2023 and is now teaching primary class at the school. Three others have transitioned to the work force, filling invaluable roles as teachers’ assistants; helping to teach sign language to the younger students and to their parents and families. The acquisition of a van to transport students to and from school has significantly increased enrollment, with eleven new primary aged students joining this term alone.
Thank you for helping to make the students’ dreams a reality. We can’t do what we do without you!
