San Miguel de Allende, MX – December 8, 2023, Feed the Hungry San Miguel, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in the San Miguel de Allende area, is proud to announce it will soon celebrate its 40th anniversary of serving the community.
From its humble beginnings as a soup kitchen, the organization has grown organically and now serves over 5,000 nutritious meals to needy children every school day. Food and nutrition education are also provided to destitute families and to seven local charities serving orphans, the elderly, and the disabled. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Feed the Hungry’s Emergency Outreach efforts provided critical nutrition to more than 20,000 desperate citizens.
Founded in 1984 by devoted church leaders and visionary couple, Dean and Nancy Underwood, and later formalizing legalities to form a larger non-for-profit with Tony Adlerbert at the helm, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has become a significant force in the fight against hunger. Sadly, these early founders are no longer with us, but their legacy of compassion and dedication lives on through the remarkable work of the organization.
Over the past four decades, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and families facing food insecurity. The organization’s commitment to providing nutritious meals has not only aided physical well-being but has also fostered hope and brought communities together. Speaking about the organization’s achievements, President Mike Taylor remarked, “We are incredibly proud of what Feed the Hungry San Miguel has achieved over the last 40 years. Through the dedication of our staff and the generous support of our donors and volunteers, we have been able to make a significant difference in the lives of so many children. This anniversary is a celebration of our shared commitment to addressing food insecurity and working towards a hunger-free community.”
Feed the Hungry San Miguel would like to express its sincere gratitude to all the former board members, including Al Kocourek, Shirley Adlerbert, Howard Gleason, Mike Gerber, Carol Weiker, Steve Livingston, and many others, who have contributed to the organization’s growth and success. Their tireless efforts and strong leadership have paved the way for the impact the organization has today.
As Feed the Hungry San Miguel looks ahead to its 40th anniversary year in 2024, numerous events and activities are planned to commemorate the milestone. From fundraising galas, walkathons, to community outreach programs, the organization invites the public to join in the celebrations and show their support. In conjunction with this momentous occasion, Feed the Hungry San Miguel launched a new logo, reflecting the organization’s evolution and commitment to its mission. The logo emphasizes the strength of community and the hope that comes with every meal provided.
